A culture of transparency: be open, be happy

Pronouncing “Transparency” might seem like a normal thing but practicing it in real life seems quite difficult. These days people hear about transparency cultures being promoted at different organizations, communities, and corporations but nobody knows for sure how to actually promote this culture. The culture of transparency can only be developed and promoted if people tend to understand the meaning and prerequisites for transparency. Transparency basically stands for being honest and open about your thoughts, feelings, and actions to the people around you. If analyzed in a professional context then being open about your thoughts to your superiors or colleagues might not seem like a good idea but the fact is that it does help in setting a valuable company culture.

Why should you adopt transparency in your workplace?

If you are confused about how transparency can make your company culture valuable then here are certain benefits that will help clear your confusion:

• Transparency helps in building better workplace relations.

• Leadership transparency leads the employees to develop a better understanding of the company vision.

• Transparency helps in solving company problems real fast.

• It helps the employees to be dedicated and engaged towards their company.

Remember, a company culture can only be made transparent if its leaders strive hard to invoke transparency in themselves and its employees. There are certain ways through which you can introduce and practice transparency in your organization.

Introduce the values that encourage your people to be open

Company values hold grave importance in guiding the employees in how they should behave. If you want your employees to be open then its best to introduce this openness as a company value. Once you do, make sure that everyone from high-ranking managers to internees are following these values. This might also instill willingness in the company employees to be open. The chance to be open will allow the companies employees to do their best and understand what the company wants from them.

Have an open-door policy

You need to convince your employees that they can trust you with their problems. Keep your door open and let them come to you. If they are not coming to you for their problems then it means that your door is not open enough for them. Everybody needs someone to listen to them, to guide them and if you can be that someone for your employees then your company culture is bound to become successful. Ask your employees to come to you for any problem. Listen to them patiently when they do come to you and offer them your best advice. Do keep in mind that people will only be open to you about their problems if they sense a genuine concern in your attitude.

Just be real

Posing like a true businessman might prove offensive to your employees. Remember, your employees like you to be real with them. You must communicate in an open way with your employees. Tell them what’s going on in the company and what is going to happen in the future. This will help them develop the feeling of trust towards you. When you will trust them with the inner secrets of your company, they will award you with their dedication and commitment. Be open with others and encourage them to do the same with you. You will be amazed at the productive results this will bring.

Make your own actions transparent

If you demonstrate transparency then you will see transparency in your employees. But if you hide things from your employees, act in an artificial way and keep them at distance then don’t ever expect your employees to be transparent with you. Bear in mind, that if you want your company culture to make your employees comfortable and transparent then you will have to be the role model.
